At its heart, Star Villains and Space Heroes is a 3rd person space combat game. Conflict takes place in 3D space with realistic space physics - no atmospheric drag, for example. This allows for complex maneuvers and increases the challenge of piloting your ship. Trust us, it's fun!
Our aim is to focus on the combat between the large vessels that make up the backbone of a space navy: capital ships. We've noticed that there aren't a great many games out there that represent this, often concentrating on fighter combat. In Star Villains and Space Heroes, you will command many classes of ship such as frigates, cruisers, carriers, dreadnaughts... we could go on for quite a while!. With several distinct factions that have specific design goals, weapon types and construction styles, you can be sure that to come across spacecraft of all types, from lumbering Star Wars-esque battleships bristling with turrets to nimble frigates that can run circles around larger opponents.
The game has, at the moment, three distinct factions, each with their own design philosophies, weapon loadouts and particular style. The full version of Star Villains and Space Heroes will add at least two (and possibly more) additional factions.

The humans are a relatively new player on the galactic stage, represented by the Earth Milky Way Political (EMPOL) organization. They are however regarded as upstarts by long-established races. Diplomatically and politically skilled, the military arm of EMPOL has seen the human race through several minor conflicts and the major AIAD-EMPOL war, which lasted a decade and cost countless lives on both sides.
The sentient robots of the Galactic North (referred to as the AIAD by other factions) are an expansionist society. After a devastating and protracted war with the human race, an uneasy peace exists. This is frequently strained by rogue AIAD elements pursuing their own agendas, raiding EMPOL shipping and generally causing trouble in border regions. It is currently unclear whether these parties are operating at the behest of AIAD central command or are truly rebel elements.

The Solonar Empire is a deceptive group of allied alien races that seem surficially peaceful. Though considered wise and enlightened, they encourage a process of cultural assimilation and indoctrination that slowly increases their membership. This in itself is no cause for alarm - however any hint of discontentment from any of their worlds soon disappears. A degree of oppression seems present in their society, and other factions, particularly EMPOL, see the Solonar as a very real threat.
